I will give you a fixed quotation for the legal work you require with a copy of my terms of engagement.
The amount will depend largely on the time needed to carry out the work; I will bear in mind
the amount of compensation at stake. I will not charge the earth for a small claim.
An advantage of direct access work is that you know in advance how much the legal work
is to cost, and you dictate what work is done.
I will encourage you to do work yourself, for example you may be able to draft the ET1 (the 'application' to a tribunal) or the ET3 (the employers' response to a claim).
Drafting these documents can save you anything between £300 and £600.
Such documents in blank are online at www.employmenttribunals.gov.uk where you can also obtain much useful information about procedure etc. Another useful link is www.employmentappeals.gov.uk.
In assessing the costs of a case, it must be realized that there can be many hundreds of pages
of evidence which have to be read and analysed and this takes time.
